After seeing some of my friends use it, I have been playing around with Formspring.me. It seems a good way to answer in more than 140 characters, though I always welcome the challenge of answering in my tweets. Actually, when I began my trip down the Twitter-hole, I was most interested in how people related in such a limited space. Microblogging was a trend I was exploring for work, in the early stages of the game, and I was researching — just how much can one say in a tweet? Craft and skill was put into saying the most in the least amount of space, not really over the course of multiple tweets (as it seems now). How the world has shifted over these past two years….
Currently, I find myself with a blog and Facebook/MySpace pages that have sprung (like weeds? flowers? redwoods?) from the roots of my Twitter account. I never intended this. I also have looked out into Posterous, Tumblr, Del.icio.us, and a variety of others. Add now FormSpring.me. I feel like such a social networking whore.
Each tool is cool in its own way, each allows another aspect of my persona to be highlighted: If you want off-the-cuff Alcide, read his blog; if you want to see what sites he looks at, check out his Delicious acct; if you want fast and current “live” Alcide, check out Twitter…and on and on. Heck, I have even been delving into CafePress for all your Alcide Love merchandise (more including exclusive designs to come)!
Most of all, I am thankful to have met some great people, people who share a love of something wild and expansive (and I am not just talking about myself). I’d like to know how you feel about the way things have developed for you in this crazy cyberworld of play and exploration. What sites have you tried and love/hate? Who have you come to love in this world? Who have you met? What drive you to keep coming back? The floor is yours…
I have met some amazing people who don’t think I am a total nerd for the weird stuff I like and can actually find out that my two local authors both know of me and stalk me. *grins*
I never was good at being social. I was always the oddball who liked things that were old fashioned and old and I liked weird trends I found out about randomly that would then become huge months later.
It’s nice to find such a great group of so called “Outcasts” who get me more than anyone else ever have.
I also love being able to discover new things, music, books, movies.. I love just being able to do and see and read and hear about stuff that I never would have years ago.
Since I’m a bit old, I have found meeting RPGr’s very interesting. Their creative energy and talent are absolutely astonishing. I think there are some really great writers out there. Back in the day (you know … walk 3 miles to school in the snow) no one would ever have thought of RPGs unless you were 8 and playing cowboys and indians. How amazing and creative the world has become.
I became interested in finding out what more people thought of the TB characters and Sookie’s bookverse as well. Being able to find opinions on how characters and plots will mesh between the show and having others to converse has been a pleasure I never would have imagined 10 years ago.
Thank you so much for all your work and your beautiful ability to carry on a story.
Well, have you tried Plurk.com?
oh, no. I can not handle any more. I am considering a bonfire of all my electronic equipment as it is.
I’m more into plurk than twitter. Twitter is confusing for me.
I open twitter only for trueblood’s (especially yours and Lafayette’s) and nkotb’s
Found my Cousins and Friends on twitter too.
Books are my true friends. They wont leave you for any reason. Human would.
