I wanted to post for a while now about being behind such a strong character in the Sookieverse. I have been part of the world on Twitter since January 2009, having fought the urge to join yet another Social Network. Then I found @SookieBonTemps and @EricNorthman in the very early stages of the TwitterSookieverse. Immediately I wanted in as Alcide. He struck me from early on in the books as the guy to watch out for.
I thus entered Twitter as a Role Player and began to see the Sookieverse grow before my own eyes. While I got more familiar with the technology and the various external outlets that grew in support of them, I found room as Alcide. In the beginning, with the world new, we were tweeting along book story-lines, then the dead rose and characters long gone arrived and we had to switch things up. Suddenly arrived the quandary “Do I notice @DebbiePelt? @MariaStarC? or do I stick with the current books? Which version of these characters do I interact with?” Too many choices.
Soon I realized that the world is so mailable that I would have to go with the flow and let interactions guide me. I was getting overwhelmed. I took a vacation for a few weeks.
Then the doppelgangers arrived. Suddenly there were 3 of me, 4, 5! And they we going with and against the story-lines and relationships I had established. What to do? Do I care that there are multiple versions of Alcide? Sort of. Let me explain, I only care because it gets confusing when players are tweeting different versions of Alcide and each reacts differently and engages at different levels, in turn confusing people following the thread. Therefore, I prefer to tweet with the circle of original RPers in the Twitter Sookieverse. That is only my preference and I have teamed up with alternate characters at times because they were really cool to work with. That said, I tend not to go completely out of character (say dating Pam or deciding to go out and kill a bunch of people), but I operate within the world, relating to characters in the world even if I have never met or related to them in the books. Right now I am following the world of the books but am in parallel to the show, so my “life” is currently between books 2 and 3.
As for the rest of the copies, hey party-on, establish outside of my circle and we’ll be fine. *Growls* *Winks* RPing is fun, it is meant to be fun, and when it stops being fun, count me out. There are many fantastic variations of characters on Twitter and in this world, all with writers and fans and readers and circles of well-played characters around them. Please be nice. Follow those that you love. Follow them all if you’d like!
There is a player behind the wolf, and there are players behind all these loved characters, before you bring hate just remember, this player started doing this as a fan like you!
I have faith in Joe.
i like your style my dear! But i say there is only one for me!
why thank you. I enjoy being@AlcideHerveaux very much.
Looks great, Alcide! Stop in Merlotte’s on your next trip to Bon Temps and say ‘hi’!
Holly, I plan on it. I look forward to the lovely view with dinner (and I don’t mean Sam’s trailer)…
All I ask is he’s tall, southern and green eyed. I want him BIG something a girl can swoon over properly. In the books all they talk about is how warm he is, and how he really can make a room seem full. *sigh*
I am such a nerd for that charecter over pretty much anyone else in the book. I can remember exactly where I was when he appeared and I was like woah. This is my kinda charecter.
I agree. Here’s to hoping a man’s man is cast and not some blubbering sissy.
I can think of him in my head so dang clearly too but it’s like my tall dark and southern boy all relates to sports guys and not actors.
thank you. I started following yall sometime when the first season was replaying on HBO and then morphed into the second season. I bought all the books and read them all at one time. So I completely understand the concern at how to play Alcide. I certainly don’t feel qualified to give any advice on that issue.
That said, I prefer to follow the “original” sookieverse players. The “copies” seem to not have the same quality of postings as you orig’s and they seem to be desperate for attention as well.
I’ve asked if there is a list of original sookieverse twitter characters from some other tweeters only to be made fun of or scoffed at. I’m sure there’s one listed somewhere but I haven’t yet found it.
Thanks for being the first. I know this must be time consuming and I for one really appreciate your work.
Thank you. You can find the lists that @KitchenBitch created: One-Click Lists. This contains the characters within the main circle. I am sure there are some others out there, but you can find the main players here.
Awesome! Thank you!
I personally like how you are doing. Keep up the good job….. Now to go finish that entertaining read for you……
Do you have another blog?
I only use this one.
Too bad..
I ‘d like to know the man behind Alcide
Don’t let the drama get you down. You are doing an awesome job with the character and I think it’s very admirable for you to write this and reach out to the other Alcides. There is plenty of room on Twitter for everyone
I totally agree. There are a ton of Eric, Sookie, Bill, Laf, and Pam characters, why not multiple Al’s? We all function in our own circles, so it is all good. I don’t see why someone would think I am hating on others…I seriously do not have the energy or time to hate on a brother from another mother if you catch my drift. RL is far too interesting, and who knows, perhaps we all can set a good example of teamwork and stand in for one another if True Blood on Twitter Thursdays involve us….guest Player, if you will… *plays Beatles song Come Together as I write*
Well said, well said. I agree that I follow only certain versions of characters simply because I think it would be a bit confusing to follow multiple versions. And I picked a more obscure character to RP myself thinking I wouldn’t have much competition, which is great, but if I did, I’d feel the same way you do- PLAY ON! Have fun, that is what this is all about, nothing else, really. I enjoy interacting with you and several others and hope the interactions can grow & cross over with some of the other characters. Let’s all have lunch @MerlottesBar. OH! I still need an @Hair_ofTheDog if anyone is interested (sorry for the plug, just trying to increase the FUN FACTOR!!!) You’re my one and only Alcide, but I got no beef with any of the others! : )
Wow I feel like I’m behind on all this action there posts from last yr ..I don’t twitter ..Yeah I know I should get with the times ! But I just happened to stumble across this blog the other day. It’s very interesting. I hope you keep it going ; – )
Welcome to the madness. It is funny how one gets sucked into fandoms, especially via Twitter. Glad you found the site, and the kooky fandom.
Oh hun, I totally understand RP drama. (I know I said I was going back to my biz, but hold on, I got a good point. I think)
I’ve RPed on various sites for almost 4 years now. Though I have avoided starting a Twitter RP profile, I have played on Myspace. That there is a whole big mess when it comes to duplicate characters. Not to mention a complete lack of respect from our “Brother from another mother” as you put it.
From what I’ve seen of the Twitter groups, they aren’t as pissy or possessive. Which is great. I love reading the interactions y’all cook up. Right now I only follow a few members of your group. The characters felt… truer. (I’m a snob when it comes to sticking to the core of a character)
Good job on creating your vision of Alcide. Really, I mean it.
Now I’m hushing. I have vampires to write. (no, not RP. My own and they are annoying. Ha-ha!)
Just wanted to say I love your blog. Your Creativity and Intelligence is far sexier than you six pack abs ; )
why thank you.
Hi. Im a huge TB fan from Norway, an I have watched the new season on surfTheCannel.. (addictive, i know:s)
I think you are going to make the norwegian girls like jelly, when the new season comes over here:)) Love the character;)
We are all fans! I think Joe did a great job this season. I spend more time on FB than twitter but I would be honored to chat sometime and if you would stop by my blog and let me know what you think, I would be in your debt!
